New Functional Material: Tourmaline Powder Expands Global Market, Green Focus
With the upgrading of environmental protection and health demands, natural functional material Tourmaline Powder is attracting global market attention. This powder derived from tourmaline minerals, after purification and grinding, possesses the characteristics of releasing negative ions, antibacterial properties, and purification. It has rapidly expanded from the industrial field to the fields of people's livelihood and environmental protection.

Tourmaline powder is derived from natural tourmaline minerals (also known as "tourmaline"). After being processed through ultrafine grinding and purification techniques, it retains the mineral's inherent piezoelectric, thermoelectric properties, as well as its core capabilities to release negative ions and far-infrared rays. According to the latest report from an international new materials research institution, ultrafine tourmaline powder with a purity of over 95% can stably release 4,000 to 6,000 negative ions per cubic centimeter under specific conditions, far exceeding the concentration of negative ions in the natural environment. This characteristic makes it a core raw material in the field of health materials.
In the industrial field, tourmaline powder has been widely used in products such as coatings, plastics, and ceramics. Interior wall coatings made by adding 5% to 8% tourmaline powder can not only continuously purify harmful gases such as formaldehyde and benzene in the air, but also inhibit the growth of mold, with an antibacterial rate of over 99%. Li Ming, the R&D director of a mineral materials technology company in Shandong Province, a domestic tourmaline powder producer, said in an interview that the company's industrial-grade tourmaline powder has been supplied to paint manufacturers in East Asia, Europe and other regions, with an annual export volume increasing by 35% year-on-year.

In the consumer end of people's livelihood, the application of tourmaline powder is closer to daily life. From health care mattresses that can release far-infrared rays and promote blood circulation, to water purifier filter cores that can purify water quality and remove residual chlorine, and to infant and toddler clothing fabrics with antibacterial functions, more and more "functional products" containing tourmaline powder have entered the consumer market. Amazon platform data shows that in the first half of 2025, the search volume related to "tourmaline health products" increased by 62% year-on-year, among which the sales growth rate of products labeled "natural minerals" and "no chemical additives" led the way.
Nowadays, Chinese enterprises have broken through the technical bottlenecks of purity and particle size, with both production capacity and quality rising. They are accelerating their capture of international market share and injecting new vitality into the global functional materials market.
